No group-specific notification settings for the end user?

ISSUE SUMMARY: I want to make sure I understand this, as notifications appear to be handled in several locations. It looks like group notifications are turned on/off globally by a user, OR on/off on a specific group by the group admin. But it looks like a user can't turn on/off notifications for a specific group. Is this correct? And if so, are there any plans on adding this functionality? It seems as though this is an important feature...
