ISSUE SUMMARY:
If you create a group and use the editor with formated text and linebreaks the content will be stored in database without formatting. If you change the text afterwards it works fine, but not at the moment a user creates the group. Might be bad if a user spents a lot of time with that field.

STEPS TO REPLICATE:
1 Create a group and format the group description with the editor (strong text, linebreaks, etc.)
2 Activate group in backend
3 Visit group in frontend

RESULT
Format and styles are gone. You can change the text now and it will be saved, but not on creation.

EXPECTED RESULT
Format should also be saved in database at creation.

what jomsocial version are you using? latest version is 4.0.2, at jomsocial 4 we cannot changing the text editor anymore. because 3rd party editor causing lots off issue. at jomsocial 4 the available format only: bold, italic, underline, bullet, number, link, and image.

Yes, I know. I am using latest version and JS editor. Just create a new group and add a formatted description like bold. Save and activate the group. It will loose the bold state at saving. Not if you change the text again after the group is activated.
