I followed the tutorial here documentation.jomsocial.com/wiki/Hide_%2...on_in_private_groups and then also read the forum thread at www.jomsocial.com/forum/groups/19948-sup...private-group#101244 to ensure I had followed the tutorial right.

It seems that I did...? I'm using the socialize template so I copied groups.viewgroup.php from

\ROOT\components\com_community\templates\default\
to
/ROOT/templates/socialize/html/com_community

I altered the code as per the tutorial, but now my page shows like the attached screen shot. What did I do wrong?

Where do you get that error, I checked your detail group and shows another issue (check my screenshoot), please you revert back the code to the original one, I will help you to remove the "Invite Friends" code.
