I'm having a few issues with the groups function, for some reason my users can't upload files to groups discussions. and if a group is set to private we can't seem to click on join group to ask permission to join..
any help would be much appreciated

1. When you create a group, the best way to do it is via frontend as in backend not all options are visible (we're preparing to move grup creation/moderation to frontend just like events). So only on frontend you'll see sharing options to enable:

Then when you create discussion you have additional options to enable and allow members to upload files.

2. Your second issue is related with template and jQuery. Your JA_social template is for JomSocial 3.2.1.2 and you have JomSocial 3.2.1.3. Also you load additional Jquery and noconflict script... that causes a lot of js issues.:

You need to configure properly or disable easy JQuery plugin.
Ok so i've updates and disabled but I'm still having issues, the file upload screen now shows and i can upload a file but when the page reloads to normally show on the right hand side the files that are uploaded to the discussion group or announcement is says no files uploaded, I've had this problem for an extreamly long time, but never really needed it until now.
any ideas?

You are using 3rd party template in jomsocial, please you try to use default jomsocial template and protostar plugin for debuging this, because when I tried with it everything is working fine.

and to tell you the truth i'm not interested in what a debugger says it may not pick up all the problems. If you simply go to a group and try and do some thing you'll see for your self that nothing works, even with the default template
