Hallo I know by now how the " Overrides " work. I wonder wy the "Categories" can be easily shown in two languages, but the Groups don´t. The Overrides seems to work only with rewriting names in categories. My be i am not completely understand the system,
I also wonder when I create a group, and click on the group folder i always go back to the index page.?
Hi, Peter.
Constant override will not work for groups names because they are created also by users so it easy can lead to errors.
Overrides will work for most administrator related items.
As for your second issue... you really messed up menu. You duplicated menu items for JomSocial pages and now system is confused redirecting to other pages than expected.
Golden rule is: if you want to create link to JomSocial page and similar link already exist in JomSocial toolbar - don't create another direct link to that page, use menu alias instead.
So now what you can do: remove all JomSocial related menu items from main menus (if they already exist in JomSocial toolbar) and replace them with menu item aliases (don't delete them just edit to right item). After that it should work fine.
Hi Michal, Thank you again for your kind help. The duplicates in the menu came after I have made the new update to jomsocial. That is why I have two toolbars now. I did not delete anything with in the Jomsocial toolbar structure just in case. I just wanted to find out, how the links are made in the very basic jomsocial installation after the update. About the overrides I thought the same way like you have explained to me but I was not sure. That point is clear after you have explained
Now let me try to explain what I trying to do. Since I use more than one languages, I do want to create 2 Basic Groups. English / German. Of course behind the Groups are the Categories with different Folders. So far I understand that now I have to build a structure in two languages. With no overrides just the original languages like I have done in the beginning.
I have another Question. From witch country are you writing now, and what is the time difference.?
Hi, Peter.
You can't create separated content for different languages in JomSocial. Strings of text could be translated but same content will be displayed. If you want to have completely separated content for different languages then you'll need to have TWO separated communities, what equals TWO separated JomSocial installations.
Probably a developer could customize your installation to display separated content for different language (something like JoomFish or FaLang do for Joomla! content). But this will be a HUGE customization involve a lot of core hacking.
So only reasonable solution is to create two language structure within on JomSocial. So you'll have German and English groups and categories.

Hi Michal I think the Toolbar works for me very well now. I started all over again, with the toolbar settings. I tried to followed very close to your instruction steps you gave me. Remember " Alias" . That was the key to it. I finally had to figure out how I am ending up, setting for each language a default page with the two flags. Imported was to leave the languages settings for all links to " All" . Only the Starting Link ( In this case - last activities ) are set to English e.g German. Those to pages only, i have linked directly to the jomsocial last activities page. The rest of the completely English Menu is linked via " alias " to the German links, witch are linked directly to the jomsocial links.
It my sounds wired but it turned out very logical. I tested all the links for hours and did not get an error. If people come in such close situation with two or more languages, i suggest to start step by step - link for link to understand what is going on.
Now you already helped me so far with to big issues - OVERRIDES and MENU ORGANISATION, all in two languages. Great Job Michal, and I am very thank full for that support you gave me.
Hallo Michal
When People upload there photo in the Banner and avatar Section in profiles, it seems they have to wait for uploading. This is no Problem ones you now that it could take a wile until you see the changes you have made. In the Browser all the way down you see the percent of uploading data its counting. But that is hart to see for costumers. At the beginning when I uploaded Photos the first time, I was confused because I thought nothing is happening. The same procedure of uploading directly in the photo folder looks more convenient. There you see an uploading bar who shows how long it will take before you see the image.
Hi, Peter.
Please, remember to open new thread for new issue ;)
Yes, there is no progress bar when uploading a n avatar on profile cover... and upload progress is shown only in some browser.
So if you think that also in this two cases progress bar will be a great help, please post a feature request here:
