We created a clone site and updated to Joomla 2.5.17, and JomSocial 3.0.5.3. Then we decided to try to test the file upload feature in group discussions. The files upload properly but the files are not visible inside the discussion.
We created a group called "Document Test Group ( #183)", We checked all the boxes to enable file sharing in the discussion and the announcement.
Then we created a discussion called "Doc Upload Testing (#67)". We tried to check the box that says "allow members to upload files" but the box would not allow a selection. We considered this an error.
We next tried uploading files which was successful. The media manager shows that the files were uploaded to:
/home/cndop/public_html/subdomains/clone/images/files/discussion/67 The files that we uploaded were: e3ad80613461e24402f9a9f674a9a285.docx and f93eab505590a48bba38678884b36daf.txt
When you open the discussion the "Available Files" display shows "No files uploaded" which is another error since you can see the files in the media manager.
Thanks for your help in solving this. Please use the test site domain for testing:

Hi Amelia Everette,
I have also noticed the problem at your site.
As I am seeing you are using old version of jomsocial.
Can you please update with the latest version v3.1.0.4
Hope it will solve your problem.
Thanks
Hi Amelia Everette,
If there any issue arise after update then let me know.
Thanks
Asraf,
We completed the upgrade of JomSocial to 3.1.0.4 and it has not resolved the problems. This new version looks very good so we are excited about getting it fixed properly.
The upgrade was completed without any errors.
We then did the following testing with the new version:
- we enabled file sharing for discussions and announcements in the back end in the group settings area.
- we created a new group in the front end called "Group for Document Upload Test" (the id is #185). We enabled file sharing for discussions and announcements in this group. All selection boxes worked properly.
- we then created a discussion (id #68) in the front end called "Test discussion for File Uploading ", but the file sharing selection box was not working so we were unable to select file sharing. Other than that the discussion worked normally.
- we then created an announcement (id #49) called "Test Announcement to check file upload". The file sharing selection box did not work for the announcement either.
- even though we couldn't select file sharing, we tried anyway to upload files to both the discussion and the announcement. The uploading process worked properly (even though we could not select file uploading). Using the media manager we could see that the files uploaded to the following directories:
/home/cndop/public_html/subdomains/clone/images/files/discussion/68
/home/cndop/public_html/subdomains/clone/images/files/bulletin/49
- the problem remains that we cannot see the files. When you look at either the discussion or the announcement the Available files box shows "no files uploaded".
We really need your help to solve why the upload selection boxes do not work and why the files are not visible even though they are in the directory. Again, please use the test site domain for testing: clone.reunionwatchnet.org/
Thank you,
Bob (for Amy Everette)
Hi Amelia Everette,
I have informed to our developer to take care this issue.
As soon as I get update, I will let you know.
Thanks
Asraf,
It is now a week since you have transferred this to your development staff. Please check to see if there is any progress. Since it appears to be an interaction between JomSocial and RocketTheme, have your developers contacted RocketTheme yet? As I said before we are excited about upgrading to JomSocial 3.1.0.4 but the shared file feature has to work. It is important to us.
Thank you for your efforts.
Bob (for Amelia Everette)
Hi Amelia Everette,
Sorry for the delay, I have taken necessary steps and
today our developer asking FTP info to find out the problem.
Can you help me by giving the FTP credentials?
Please edit your first post and fill up FTP info.
Thanks
Hi Amelia Everette,
Thanks for the co-operation.
We are still trying to find the problem and we need the cpanel (specially for database) access.
Can you send us by editing first post miscellaneous field.
You can send also at my private message.
Thanks
Hi Amelia Everette,
Thanks for your co-operation.
I have placed necessary update at your database table "#__community_files".
There may not update taking place at the table, So the table should be actually
CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `#__community_files` (
`id` int(11) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT,
`name` varchar(255) NOT NULL,
`groupid` int(11) NOT NULL,
`discussionid` int(11) NOT NULL,
`bulletinid` int(11) NOT NULL,
`eventid` int(11) NOT NULL,
`profileid` int(11) NOT NULL,
`filepath` varchar(255) NOT NULL,
`filesize` int(11) NOT NULL,
`hits` int(11) NOT NULL,
`storage` varchar(64) NOT NULL,
`creator` int(11) NOT NULL,
`created` datetime NOT NULL,
`type` varchar(255) DEFAULT NULL,
PRIMARY KEY (`id`),
KEY `discussionid` (`discussionid`),
KEY `groupid` (`groupid`),
KEY `creator` (`creator`),
KEY `bulletinid` (`bulletinid`)
) ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=utf8 AUTO_INCREMENT=1 ;
Asraf,
Thank you for your efforts and that of your developer. The changes you made have fixed the file sharing problem inside discussions. Well done.
We then proceeded to test the file sharing inside announcements and apparently nothing has been fixed or patched in this area. The announcement file sharing selection box inside a group does not work and therefore no selection box is available to select file sharing when editing an announcement. I'm guessing that it is a very similar problem to what you fixed for discussions. Hopefully it will be an easy fix now that you know the answers.
The solution brings several questions to mind and we would appreciate your comments:
1. Were the DB tables patched or recreated?
2. What could have caused the problem in the first place?
3. Will the changes survive an upgrade to JomSocial? to Joomla?
4. Were there any other code changes made beyond the table fixes?
Thank you. We are very close to a total solution.
Bob
Hi Amelia,
Happy to hear that the problem is resolved.
Please create another post for next problem and can have a like of this post.
Now here the answers of highlighted questions
The solution brings several questions to mind and we would appreciate your comments:
1. Were the DB tables patched or recreated?
The db table is patched just updated.
2. What could have caused the problem in the first place?
The package upgrade may not taken place properly.
3. Will the changes survive an upgrade to JomSocial? to Joomla?
Ya the change will survive on upgrade Jomsocial and obviously Joomla!
4. Were there any other code changes made beyond the table fixes?
No, no code change added for fixing this issue. The necessary code taken place at the time of upgradation.
