This is a bid deal because people want to share photos and videos from the events or during the event. An explanation would be nice.

Also, can I use an previous jomsocial version to add this feature back in?

I am sorry this is impossible right now, if you want you should hack the code.. I suggest you hire the 3rd party dev to achive this.
