Hi I purchased a developer licence about 4 years ago.
I'm now surprised to discover that my Unlimited developer license has expired?
Could you please explain?

If I understand you correctly, you're trying to say that my ulimited developer licence was only valid for 1 year when I purchased it?
Not correct it was valid for a number of years and continued to be until I just checked it now.

I paid $500AUD for it...

I haven't downloaded a copy of it for maybe 12 months now... but it was valid at that time

This is what was on the site when I purchased my Unlimited Developer licence.

If I buy JomSocial now, will I be able to download new updates as they become available in the future?
Upgrades will be free for 1 year, this includes all major and minor releases. For subsequent year, there will be a small annual fee to continue downloading the latest release, if you wish. Usage license however, will never expire.

So, what I should be able to do is to download the version when my licence "expired" at least... and also I should be able to pay a "small annual fee" in order to continue to download current versions.

Further this is what people like me should be afforded. I'm the type who helped fund this project... so I should be given access to the latest versions for a small fee... by small I would think less than $50AUD.
Thanks

Hi, Norm.

Please, browse here: www.jomsocial.com/component/digistore/licenses
Then find your product "Developer edition".
In the same row you'll find renewal option: $109 for 6 months and $199 for one year.
Just to compare: Developer edition regular price is $499 for 6 months.

Developer subscription is valid for 6 months or for 1 year if renewed. You're correct saying it was valid for few years... even if you had 6 months plan. Please, take a look: prntscr.com/8gzwmw
Your subscription expired in May this year.

I'll need to ask Billing department staff for clearing this out...

I'll update you soon.

Hi Norm,

We never had an unlimited developer license. All our licenses have updates and support during the time they are active. After that you can renew them to a lower price from this page:

www.jomsocial.com/component/digistore/licenses

My suggestion is to consider renew your licenses from that page or buy a new one with a discount that I could offer since you owned a developer license. In that case I offer you a 30% OFF coupon code if you buy JomSocial PRO this week. If you agree with this let me know.

Best regards,

Thank you for your offe . This does not match what I signed up for. Remember I was an early adopter I payed a lot of money for an unlimited licence. Do you think that I've been treated fairly.

Hi Norm,

I'm sorry but maybe you misunderstood what you were buying. As I told you in my previous message on JomSocial.com we never had lifetime licenses of standard, pro or developer versions.

We have many customers who bough the same developer package and they never complain about this. Some of them renewed the licenses individually and others simply moved to PRO versions. You're the first customer who think this package is for lifetime.

What I offer you in my previous message is still valid. if you want to go ahead with it let me know.

Best regards,

Maybe that's because nobody ever bothered to read what they were signing up for.

Again... this is an excerpt of the page that I signed up to.

If I buy JomSocial now, will I be able to download new updates as they become available in the future?
Upgrades will be free for 1 year, this includes all major and minor releases. For subsequent year, there will be a small annual fee to continue downloading the latest release, if you wish. Usage license however, will never expire.

Now... what my contention is that people who purchased an Unlimited Developer licence (which was considerably more expensive than current licences), should be offered what was promised. That is a "SMALL ANNUAL FEE" to continue to download the latest release.

I would propose that $50 would fall into the "small fee" bracket.

Please let me know what part of my original agreement is now being denied. I understand your company is not the one who made the original agreement offer... however as the new owner you should honour past agreements.

Cheers

Hi Norm,

Looks like we are discussing two different things:

Usage license however, will never expire.

You can use the last package you got from us forever. Even when the license expired the extension will continue working on your site.

...For subsequent year, there will be a small annual fee to continue downloading the latest release

What you must understand with this is that you can download new and old versions if you have an active license. If you don't, you have to pay the fee you see in this page:
www.jomsocial.com/component/digistore/licenses

What we can't do is to charge $50.- dollars to renew a developer version.

Well I'd like to suggest you that CAN charge $50... but you're not WILLING to charge $50.

What I find really quite frustrating is that you still won't answer my basic question.
When I purchased the Unlimited Developer Licence, I agreed to the terms... one of which was that I would be able to renew for a "small annual fee".
What it didn't say was "for the cost of a new licence".
So... what this should mean is that people who purchased an UNLIMITED DEVELOPER licence, should have some sort of "special" renewal fee... of which you do not have. I purchased this licence at a very early stage of the development that Azrul started. I remember meeting with him at a Joomla day in Melbourne and asking him why it wasn't GPL'd... had a long conversation with him.
When it went GPL... I wanted to reward the company. In my 10+ years of Joomla, my licence with Jomsocial is the single most expensive thing I've ever purchased. I did it as a means of supporting the project and with the knowledge that I'd always have it.

Where does this leave us...? It leaves us at the point of you not honouring the agreement that I signed up to.

Clearly you can do as you please... what you can't/shouldn't do is to NOT honour agreements that customers have agreed to.

Attached is the screenshot from the purchase agreement I made or attached is my original purchase receipt.

So... before we go any further... what is your final offer for my "small annual renewal" fee, because I don't consider a 30% discount as fair.

Cheers
