Showing Group Category Descriiptions on the front end

Any ideas on how to show the Group Category descriptions? At the moment only visible in admin. Would be great to use this on the front end too. Just need a simple sql call to get the group category description PLUS an echo statement for placement. Then I can place it on the groups.index.php template.
