How does archiving work and what's it actually for? The documentation wiki just says it happens when the cron job runs, but doesn't really explain what it's doing.

Siniša Krišan This is a setting for shared and generally weak servers, and it solely prevents the overhead of the activity database table, which is inevitable to grow big over time.
It means that activity will still be in the database, but it will be skipped on the page load.
If you have a decent server, you can simply put some crazy values to it and forget about it.
On shared hostings, this is a life saver.
