I installed the original protostar template and the problem still persists.

Also, several other pages won't show properly - the advanced search (image below) for example and clicking the profile button brings up a completely blank page.

What can I do about this?

please follow this solution:
1. because in some reasons, the bootstrap.min.js file loaded twice, maybe from joomla it self. here the step to turn off jomsocial bootstrap. edit
/components/com_community/views/views.php line 650:

$js = 'assets/bootstrap/bootstrap.min.js';

$js = '';
