I just purchased Nobbis's Jomsocial search plugin and it works GREAT! I had it up and running within minutes searching all my Jomsocial content flawlessly. I love that it allows you to set the categories you want it search though along with other nice options. I highly recommend it!
FYI: I'm running the most current version of Jomsocial version 2.0.4
