No matter how you will use it, social network is the way of the future. There are a lot to think when it comes to building your own social network. Early in the morning yesterday (Malaysian time),  Syam(our server admin) was awaken by a downtime notification on JomSocial servers. He tried to connect and reboot the server manually but there was no response from the server, which is a rare case. We contacted RimuHosting and they informed us that they were having a power disruption on their servers and were working on it.

We received several complaints from our users especially from those who use version older than 2.2. In the older version of JomSocial, the update checker is set to check available update on JomSocial.com server. Since the server is down, it could not connect to our servers resulting to the slowdown. This issue is fixed in later versions. Besides, there was supposed to be a DNS fail-over that would redirect all requests to a backup server. Unfortunately, it didn't happen. 

This is the first of many blog posts that will be posted in the next coming weeks, updating you, our loyal fans with the hottest JomSocial news, most especially on JomSocial 2.4 development updates and behind-the-scenes shots.

We have officially started developing JomSocial 2.4 shortly after the release of JomSocial 2.2.1. Our developers are grouped into four with each group having a dedicated web-designer to bring in the creative juice; doodling everywhere in our office.  Seriously, they do doodle everywhere. Proof of this will be shown in the next blog post, your honor.

JomSocial Flickr Stream

We have just released JomSocial 2.2.3 Beta 3 which is compatible with Joomla! 1.7 Beta. There are various  bugfixes and feature enhancements packed into this release. If you are an active customer and would like to try this out, head over to our release thread.

I was was recently contacted by a developer who wanted some help hacking JomSocial core code. Within JomSocial privacy setting page, he wanted to add some of his own form elements, which would affect some privacy setting of his application.
