Important minor release: 3.0.5.1
A few days ago we released version 3.0.5. We quickly discovered there were still a few issues with it though, so we kept the release quiet until we’d fixed them. Today we’re releasing 3.0.5.1. It’s a small release but an important one.
What’s new in 3.0.5 (and 3.0.5.1)?
Bug Fixes
Both 3.0.5 and 3.0.5.1 bring some much needed updates. It also squishes some bugs that were lingering around from previous versions. They include:
- A disappearing “More” button in the activity stream.
- A random number of messages showing in the activity stream.
- The updated message link showing nothing after being clicked.
Security Vulnerability Fixes
But that’s not all. 3.0.5.1 is also a security release. It fixes two vulnerabilities with SQL injections that were reported by our users. (Thank you Игорь).
Avatar and Genders
Another major problem fixed in this release is related to avatars and gender selection. JomSocial 3 shows different avatars and cover images based on the gender field. The gender field, though, was chosen from a dropdown menu which can contain any value the community admin chooses. If the values were not exactly “male” or “female” on non-English sites, the feature didn’t work properly.
3.0.5.1 bases this feature on the actual “gender” field. Each new installation will now use "gender" instead of a "select" field to collect that data from users.
Open Graph Improvements
Facebook has an Open Graph API which allows users to share any items they find online. JomSocial supports this feature. With JomSocial 3.0.5.1, we’ve improved the information shown on the link they share. For example, users who share a group, profiles or events can select the image to display next to the link. They can choose either the group avatar or the cover photo.
Likes Win Points
Each “like” now earns users points. That should help you win more activity on your site!
Improved Date Picker
We’ve also improved the date picker on birthdate, events and in other locations. It’s now much more user-friendly for your members.
