Hi!

I need one of my pages to use a fixed width and I wonder what's the best way to achieve this?

I thought it would make sense to clone the Socialize template, turn off the Responsive mode on this clone and then assign the clone to the pages where I need a fixed width.

The reason is that I have a forum on my site which is not yet responsive, so it looks a bit weird with a responsive template.

Assuming we'll go for the solution above I'm also wondering how to define the fixed width? By default it's too narrow for my needs.

Any input is greatly appreciated :). Thanks!

Best regards

Peter

HI, Peter.

No, you can't disable responsiveness in Socialize template :)
Only solution for this will be to install NEW (or create unresponsive template) template that is NOT responsive and assign it to forum.

Other solution is to add responsiveness to forum... but this will require a bit of html, php and css skills.

- Instead of saying: 'it's not working', explain the problem in detail.
- Screenshots with the URL visible in them and the problem marked are more than welcome.
- Tell us how to replicate the problem, we can't fix it if we can't find it.
- Make sure that your site/server meets JomSocial System Requirements
- Make sure to setup JomSocial Cron Job
- Always provide us with access details to the backend and ftp. We need it to debug problems.
- If you have a similar problem, but a solution you found isn't working, open a new thread instead of 'merging' with an existing one.

Hi Michal! Thanks for your reply.

So what does the General / Responsive on/off switch in the template parameters do?

I could of course use a different template than Socialize for my forum but I'm afraid I will lose the top jomsocial toolbar (and possibly my Megamenu too) if I switch template completely?

Making the forum responsive is not an option - even the developer says that it's a massive project and I certainly don't have the skills to do it myself :).

Hi, Peter.

I'm sorry my bad. I thought its a leftover from T3 Framework panel...
It turns off responsiveness indeed... you'll need to recompile less to css again.
But I'm afraid this won't work with cloned template. Template is cloned only in administration backend and both clones uses the same files.
So if you recompile less to css both clones will have the same file - thus both will be unresponsive.

I tested it a second ago. And even if cloned template wasn't assigned to any menu item - original become unresponsive too...

So only solution will be to duplicate whole file system of Socialize template.
Never did it for T3 framework based template but in ordinary templates it was enough to copy and rename main folder and edit templateDetails.xml to provide a unique template name... but I can't guarantee it will work for Socialize...

Thank you again Michal!

Well, cloning the template as you suggested kind of works... I was able to set it to fixed width, but had issues both with the Jomsocial toolbar and the Megamenu... The toolbar sort of appeared twice and the megamenu didn't show at all. It's possible that these issues can be fixed but it's over my level of "expertise" he he.

For now I might just use a random non-responsive template for my forum with similar colors as my Socialize theme and use the Hello Me module to notify the user of what's happening on Jomsocial. We'll see, I'll play around a little and we'll see :)
