Hi there,
I wondered if this has been raised before, I've checked but didn't find anything.
Everything was working fine in terms of registration before but since a few days ago, whenever a user registers, admin now receives three copies of the same new user notification.
I hadn't changed anything on the site in that time. One thing I did notice though is that a spammer had somehow registered onto the site and activated the account without me receiving any admin notification for that user.
Since the spammer registered themselves admin have been receiving the notifications 3 times for new users. Has the spammer somehow hacked in and changed the registration files to allow him in with no notification but also messed it up and we now receive 3?? I have no idea.
What files should I check via FTP to see if anything has been changed?
JS 2.6.2 Joomla 2.5.11
EDIT:
You know what? This is a 'Doh!' moment. Immediately after posting this I have checked and the emails are coming through 3 times because I have added 2 more Super Admins so they are coming through 3 times but each to a different email addy. Which is correct.
Ignore this! Sorry!
The other issue though, do you know of anyway the spammer could have registered without an admin email notification coming through and if I now need to check anything please let me know. Thanks
Hi, Joe.
I'm happy that you figured this out by yourself :)
You're using outdated and unsupported JomSocial. Current version is -> 3.1.1
Also, we have security patch for your JomSocial version. You can download it here:
www.jomsocial.com/blog/hot-fix-3-1-0-4
Thank you for the quick reply, and thank you for pointing me in the direction of the patch. I may be being a bit dumb here but how do I install the patch? Will the patch affect any of my customised template files?
Also, twice now when trying to reply to this thread, I click 'Quick Reply' and complete my post and select 'Ticket Status' then click submit but nothing actually posts? I've now clicked full 'Reply' to see if this works.
Many thanks
Hi, Joe.
Her is how to apply the patch: extract zip file, upload both folders "controllers" and "helpers" via FTP to ROOTcomponents/com_community and replace all files.
Yes, please, test it in other browsers too.
Ok Michal, thanks for the instructions.
I've just tested 'Quick Reply' in IE, Chrome and Firefox on Windows 8.1 and also on Galaxy S4 on Android.
None of them work? Is it a universal problem? Does it work for you?
