Having an issue in our activity streams where the user's name is being displayed as a path instead of just the name.

Secondly, the popup window is ALWAYS too small. Is there a way to enlarge it? If so how and where?

It seems that you forgot to grant an administrator rights to user which you entered into site info box details.

I'm very sorry Andrew, but I'm not sure what you mean by "it makes no sense"... Simply it looks like the credentials from site info box are not valid, or simly this user is not an administrator, which does't allows me to access your back-end.

could it be possible that this is also relating to the JavaScript issues which we are having on the latest release of JomSocial? Because, I have it working now (it seems) by adding javascript with a plugin.

It's really dsifficult to say, which exactly plugin did solve the problem?

Has there been a patch released for JomSocial recently? possibly: 3.1.0.2?

3.1.0.4 was released yesterday, but it was only a secruity patch fix.
