when a member adds a URL in a comment, then a preview of that page appears under the text,
eg: (check attachment )

The link of the URL in the text is fine.
eg: www.capetownsailing.co.za

But the link of the preview is not fine. It is a link under my domain sosailize.net
eg : www.sosailize.net/www.capetownsailing.co.za

that gets a 404 page not found error

How can I have
1) the preview link, linking to the correct url?
2) The 404 page auto-redirecting to home page?

I'm sorry but I can't replicate that issue on your site.
I've tried both post and comment:

Also for other site:

So this seems to work fine.

Please, note that you use outdated version of JomSocial 4.3.5 while latest version is 4.5 (soon 4.51). I recommend upgrade to latest version ;)

PS: 4.3.5 version is the last version i think with old messaging system. Later versions have new chat system and all old messages disappear starting from zero messages, which is not acceptable. So until we find a solution to keep old messages in new chat, we can't upgrade. We are trapped to 4.3.5 version.

The only option here will be to edit this post straight in data base.
You'll need to search for it and edit that record.

As for chat - no, old messages will be imported from old system to new chat.
All what you need will be to run cron job.

The best option will be to create copy of your current site and make a test ;)

About new chat messages import,
1) you mean run the cron job of url 'mysite.com/index.php?option=com_community&task=cron ' ?
2) Once or several times?

I would also suggest to start with carte blanche in chat - just drop content of all chat related tables in DB.
One that in most cases old messages are... well, just old and spared, and newly created chat will have right syntax so no issues in the future.
