Upgrade to latest version gets stuck on 'Updating JomSocial Database'

ISSUE SUMMARY:
I am trying to upgrade to latest version and it structs at "updating jomsocial database"/ updating Theme(waiting)
I see in one of the forum posts to remove tool bar completely and upgrade again. What and where and ow to do that or please suggest me how to upgrade to latest version.

Hi,

got timeout issue at your server. please increasing max_execution_time at PHP configuration from 300 to 3000.

if still stuck, please provide me FTP access detail by editing your first post, put it at site info form. it's private

please check it. I did it for you.
seem the issue related with files permission at your server.
please make sure the folder and file permission using www-data, you can asking your hosting support about it.
