ISSUE SUMMARY:
Hi Guys
We are creating an online learning environment with Guru

What we are trying to do is to restrict the user search function to super users only
how would we go about this..?

Also we don't mind if this function is removed from the user menu and we have to make a custom module/menu item for super users, but we simply can't have students contacting one another

It will be ok for instructors /admins to communicate back and forth with students, just not student to student

thank you in advance

Hi, Russell.

Try to remove from JomSocial Toolbar menu "Search" and "Advanced search" menu items.
Then Create hidden menu (menu that is not displayed on your site) and re-create previously deleted menu items (you may move those item from one menu to another instead deleting them). Set access rights fro those items to SU.

If you want to limit student-student communication you should remove "Friend" button wherever it appears and display "Send message" button to SU.

This will require layout customization. You'll find both buttons here:

ROOT/components/com_community/templates/jomsocial/layouts/profile/focus.php

Also this documentation may help: documentation.jomsocial.com/wiki/Customizing_Template

- Instead of saying: 'it's not working', explain the problem in detail.
- Screenshots with the URL visible in them and the problem marked are more than welcome.
- Tell us how to replicate the problem, we can't fix it if we can't find it.
- Make sure that your site/server meets JomSocial System Requirements
- Make sure to setup JomSocial Cron Job
- Always provide us with access details to the backend and ftp. We need it to debug problems.
- If you have a similar problem, but a solution you found isn't working, open a new thread instead of 'merging' with an existing one.

- Use the "Thank You" feature on any post that helped you
