Hi all,

I just want to ask... how do you enable the option that i, as a member, receive a message when some-one sends me a private message.

Also.. i do not wish that members see what is in that message. They have to login for that. So... how can i change that message so that they only see that there is a message and that they have to login?

You can do it using Joomla! language override feature:

Just create new override for this constant:

COM_COMMUNITY_EMAIL_INBOX_SENT

and use this as text:

Hi {target},\n\n{actor} just sent you a new message.\n\nTitle:\n%1$s\n\nYou can also read your new message on the site here:\n\n<a href="_QQQ_{url}_QQQ_">{url}</a>\n\n\nHave a nice day!

So now only title of message will be displayed.


- Instead of saying: 'it's not working', explain the problem in detail.
- Screenshots with the URL visible in them and the problem marked are more than welcome.
- Tell us how to replicate the problem, we can't fix it if we can't find it.
- Make sure that your site/server meets JomSocial System Requirements
- Make sure to setup JomSocial Cron Job
- Always provide us with access details to the backend and ftp. We need it to debug problems.
- If you have a similar problem, but a solution you found isn't working, open a new thread instead of 'merging' with an existing one.

- Use the "Thank You" feature on any post that helped you

If you disabled PMs you can enable it here: Backend -> Components -> JomSocial -> Configuration -> Messaging (boc in right column) -> Enable messaging -> YES

It seems that messaging is enabled, but for some reason i still do not get an email when someone is messaging me.

It seems that you didn't set cron job that will sent out site emails. All emails that are in queue are in "Pendindg" status. This means they wait for cron job to be fired.

There are 80319 unsent emails (!).

When I fire cron manually... they are still in the same state...

I assign developer to this thread.

Hi Albertus,

I will upgrade my post with the latest information. However, its ftp data. The website is in var/www

Also... could you please check if those 80.000 messages can be deleted, so that we start fresh? I do not wish that my server is noted as a spam server.

I found no any problem with jomsocial code. please set max execution time at your php settings to 300.
after that let me know the result.

How do you store it in the database??

you can "purge sent", or if you can delete all mails. you can emptying the tables:
#_community_msg
#_community_msg_recepient

(#) is your table prefix.

ehm... will this only delete the email or also the messages in the timeline???


could you also please look at the website??? It seems that when you logged in and looked.. that something has changed and now my right side is under the website. Its only on the stream page :(
