Error '500 - XML file did not load' during registration process

After I complete the first page of the Jomsocial User Registration and click the 'Next' button, I get the following error '500 - XML file did not load'.

I am not sure how long this has been an issue, but I am currently using the following:
Joomla version 2.5.24
Jomsocial version 3.2.1.5

Any thoughts on what might be causing this and how to correct it?

Hi Mike,

the error not with Jomsocial it self. but with Joomla users component.
http://[yourdomain]/index.php?option=com_users

please try to update your joomla version to latest on 2.5.27

Hi Albertus

I have updated to the latest version of 2.5.27 and purged cache, but still the same error. Any thoughts on what else I can try?

can I download your site by using Akeeba backup? I need it for deep debugging purpose. debugging from site copy is more safe.
because can damaging the site.

Hi Mike,

something wrong with the Joomla it self. please re-install your joomla:
1. download lastest full package of Joomla version that are you using.
2. make backup for the site.
3. from Joomla extension manager, install that new joomla package.

after that. the error will be gone.

Thx Albertus. I appreciate your help. I have followed the instructions you provided and reinstalled the latest version again. However, Now when I complete the first page of the registration process and click on the 'Next' button, it goes to a login page (not sure which one) but no new user has been registered!

Hi Mike,

seem there is a itemID menu issue. this is joomla 2.5 issue. to fix it I create new item at main menu, Community.
please enable that menu item from joomla menu manager. rename it with you community name or else (if necessary)
