I saw this post but unfortunately I can't reply so I posted my experience here.

I had a simiar problem with Jomsocial and EasyDiscuss, where the dropdown cog disappered and the modules were aligned under the activity stream instead of next to it.
Unfortunately, you can't just disable EasyDiscuss to get rid of the problem.
Yes, that will prevent future problems (and kill off an app you paid good money for) but won't remove the current issue, since the problem item has already been written to the activity list.
(In my case, the problem was with a smiley being included in an EasyDiscuss blog reply.)

To get rid of the error, go to the Jomsocial backend, select Monitor-> Activities.
Find the item that you are having problems with and delete that activity.
That will clear the current display issue

For a longer term solution, its something that StackIdeas and JomSocial need to resolve between themselves.
