I have seen that someone posted the exact problem that I am having over six months ago and it does not appear to have been answered.

I am clicking the 'Assign to group' button and getting nothing but an uneditable pop up box with an x in the right hand corner.

beside that, your are still using old jomsocial version, it will work fine if you used the newest version
