Envolve looks similar to Facebook's chat feature. It's easy-to-install, easy-to-use, and it helps you build a great sense of community around your site by letting your users chat with each other in real-time. We also pride ourselves on having the best customer support.
Users can have:
-- Public group chats
-- Private group chats
-- Private one-on-one chats
1) APPEARANCE
One of the huge benefits of Envolve is that it appears on EVERY page of your site. Your users can browse anywhere on your site and they will still be able to chat. They aren't trapped on a single page.
2) LOGIN
Envolve can use your Joomla login system so when a user logs in they are automatically signed in to chat. This is called 'single sign-on' or SSO for short. If you don't have a login system, visitors can login to chat with their Facebook or Twitter accounts. They can also create an Envolve account if they would prefer.
3) TRANSLATION
Envolve offers in-chat translation into 50+ languages. No matter where in the world your users are from they will be able to talk with each other in their native language!
4) GROW YOUR COMMUNITY
Each Envolve chat room has it's own short URL. Your visitors can easily share this with their Facebook or Twitter friends. This brings brand new people to your site through chat.
We also have an option to prevent non-logged in users from chatting. If they would like to chat they are automatically re-directed to your sign-up page. This helps you sign up more users directly through chat.
5) INSTALL
Our extension requires an API key (a random series of numbers and letters that is unique to you) in order to work. You'll get one when you sign up at http://www.envolve.com. Paste it into the text box once you've installed our Joomla extension and that's it!
Envolve is free up to 25 simultaneous chatters.

When you log into Jomsocial you are NOT logged into this chat system. You still have to login via Facebook, Envolve or another system. That broke the deal for me.

Thumdar - Envolve *should* automatically pick up the names from your JomSocial site. If it's not there must be a misconfiguration or a bug. Sorry you're having trouble! Can you shoot us an email (support at ...) and we can work through this issue with you?

After going through the sign up process, activating account, download module, install etc I found it didn't work. I contacted the developers and was informed it was not ready for Joomla 1.6. Please put this on your website and in Jomsocial. Looks a great plugin but kindly note; Joomla has other versions and it would have been nice to know before going through all of the above

ToniL - Give it another shot! We just updated our plugin to support Joomla 1.7.
