Auto Group will automatically join members to groups based on their selection from a profile field which you as the administrator setup.
For example say you have an online classroom that teaches math, spelling and history.

You can add a custom field with jomsocial that will ask what they would like to learn, math, spelling or history. When the user selects math, they are automatically joined to all groups with the word math in the title or from the category math or from the groups with math in the title from the category called math.

Whenever the member updates his or her profile and changes his category he is added to the groups from his current category. The member or group admin are responsible for leaving the groups they have joined.

Compatible with Joomla 1.5 & 1.6 as well as the latest version of Jomsocial

Actually if you read the change blog log and forum you'll see that we added multi-select field support.

Nice extension, but I find it a big flaw that it does not work with all field types. I am using it to present the most active groups (simply using the group names) for new users to be able to join one of these at signup. But it is not possible to have the user selecting more than one group.

Also, the group admin is not notified and no activities are generated. I thought this was due to a bug, but it turns out its by design. hopefully this will change soon

It took a while to configure it, but then that was in part because what I needed was so complex. But with Greg's help (a lot of help) we got there in the end. He even added some extra code to make it to one specific thing that I needed. You can't get better then that!
