Installation is simple if you are using a standard template, but if you're using RocketTheme or another third-party template, the installation instructions are pretty poor, and you have to have a reasonable understanding of PHP and what the code is doing in order to know where to cut and paste the commenting code into your template.

The code comes as a component, although the component has nothing really to configure, and the business end of this is all taken care of by a plug-in that installs itself into the plugins/community folders. The plugin offers you the ability to turn on-and-off features like icons, email notification to authors when someone likes/comments on their activity, the order and number of comments and whether to auto-collapse the comment area when you've submitted (a bit like Facebook). And for what it does I can find little fault; it works well and integrates with JomSocial like a charm. However, I did find myself editing the presentation a fair bit to make it look good in my template (no fault of the developer though), and also tweaking the php as it didn't make a lot of sense to be able to add comments to Wall Post and Forum Post activity, as they have their own, fully featured commenting systems and having commenting in the activity stream is pretty confusing to users. However, commenting on Status Updates and other custom activities I've added to my JomSocial install is a good thing; and being able to "like" any activity is a welcome feature. All in all, well worth the very modest cost, although to get the best out of it you may want to get your hands dirty with the code.

Very good, but the timestamp for commets in activities is wrong (3 ours back of the correct time) and nobody answer to me for some fix, in support page (ticket) 3 days ago...

Great component! It brought a lot of answers together, including great fun such as auto fetching link's content, which is so great. Should be in JS by default.

Just a little drawback though, after install, it actually "patched" in default JS folder, but I use the override function, so I had to find out what file was changed, and then diff this file with my template's. But except for that, I'm very excited by this component.

I liked this extension before, and it's even better now that it's been updated to have additional links for "Join this Group" (when the feed indicates a member joining a group) and "Add as Friend" (when the feed shows two members having become friends, it allows you too to become their friend). The problem with the incorrect time of an activity has now been fixed as well. I give it 5 stars, and highly recommend it to any other purchasers.

I can atest to the problems peter mentions in his review. I'm utilizing a rocketheme template (affinity), and I can't seem to get this app working on it. almost zero instructions on how to do so. I've left a trouble ticket with both social code and rocketheme, just silence so far.

Great add on. Very easy...a no brainer to install. Once done it looks and functions just as cool. Brings the activity stream nearer to what you expect from other social networks like FB.

We paid good money and installed what we thought would be a good product.

Unfortunately it screwed our default Jomsocial template.

We then submitted a support ticket only to get ABSOLUTELY NO ANSWER despite repeated requests.

Obviously this organisation are dishonourable and I challenge them answer this accusation (and other similar ones from other users here or for Jomsocial to remove them from their site !!

No dout there will be no action of any kind.

I wanna know if that Addon/Core enhancements works on a Joomla! 1.8 ...

I purchased three items from Social Code, two worked, this one didn't.

Couldn't match up the replacement code for a well known third party template, even if I stood on my head.

Sent support ticket, got zip for a reply.

I agree with below that I'll have to buy a longer subscription to get an answer.

And that sucks.

I purchased this extension on Dec. 21st and still my support ticket has been unresolved. I have given my FTP and still nothing to this day. I really like the idea of this product however now parts of my community do not function correctly. Hopefully I will be able to give an update soon that this has been corrected but it is not looking that way. If anyone could help me out please feel free to contact me. None of the comment, like, or other links work on the page.

This extension is really a must have for JomSocial. This will be really more attractive for your community. My site is not actually in production, but I guess this is will be really more funny and useful for my community.

The installation was smooth and easy. Please have a look to the documentation of the site, the installation steps are describe. (the default template to patch will work for all JomSocial basic templates).

I had a problem that I couldn't work out how to solve myself and posted a ticket Friday afternoon. Socialcode solved the issue today (Sunday!!!) so I'm ready for a launch tomorrow. I'm impressed! And thanks :-)

1) The notification is only through email . but many users want it to display in the notification box of jomsocial as well

2)Public : you made it public any user would like only there friends would comments on the activity .

3) Can you put some privacy settings :P

I have been working with Joomla for 5 years, have spent thousands of dollars on components, modules, etc. and this is the first and hopefully last negative review I have to write.

Purchased version 1 of this product only to find that critical items such as correct time display didn't work and a few other items.

Several emails went unanswered from the developer until my subscription had expired .... then he glaly replied and indicated that I would need to renew my subscription and pay again for a component that didn't properly work to begin with and was buggy .....

I really don't mind supporting Joomla developers for their work .... but guys like this that avoid you until your subscription has expired and then expect you to pay for a new subscription to get a working version are really hurting the reputable Joomla developers that work hard to distribute quality products .....

What a shame that rather than honor the fact that his version 1 was less than ready for distribution ..... he would rather stick it to the guys that supported him early on and paid for buggy versions and supported his continued development of several new versions .....

So make sure you purchase the 12 month subscription because anything less than that you are running the risk of having a less than satisfactory product in a month or 2 and having to pay for another subscription ......

JomSocial team ..... please pay more attention to the 3rd party wanna be developers who are making a living of the backs of your loyal JS customers ...... Stop letting them list components, mods, etc.... here until they have been verified as reputable developers/products ...... it hurts JS overall when products are made available here and your clients end up dealing with con-man developers.

Once again ....such a shame that the people that supported this guy and paid for his early versions which should have been labeled ALPHA are now stuck with having to pay for a working version so soon after forking over their cash. I will be certain to post this warning everywhere I see this and other components from this company for sale.

and there is ZERO support for this product. I have sent them three emails and they have not responded.

I used this application in the demosite and i noticed that this component does not allow the submit "i don't like" directly but only "i like". I wish that the buttons "i like" and "i don't like" were present together and create activities together. Other thing that i don't like is that if someone add comment, the comment box have to be closed automatically and not stay open. I hope that you can do these upgrades.

It's configured correctly in Joomla and JomSocial - activity entries appear with the correct time. But the comments in activity are in a different timezone it appears. On the wall in the profile everthing is okay.
In the Latest Activity JomSocial module you not see any comments. :-(
