General upgrading procedure

Typical upgrade procedure would require you to uninstall existing version and reinstalling the new version. Please ensure that you install and updated ALL modules and plugins to the latest version. No data will be lost in the process. Each component will perform necessary database upgrade automatically during the installation.

For version specific upgrade, please read the upgrades notes below.

Brillo 1.6.x to Brillo 1.6.287

1. It is advisable to uninstall old Brillo and install the latest 287 package. The reason being; some hosting environment failed to upgrade some files hence most likely result to errors.

2. All versions prior to Brillo 285 are required to reinstall the Plugins & Modules. For plugin, you may install on top of the current file (no need for uninstallation). Modules however need to be uninstalled first.

3. mod_hellome need to be updated with the latest version to remove a known bug.

All previous versions to Brillo 1.6.x

1. You are required to uninstall JomSocial to ensure that all core files are updated to meet the new 1.6.x structure.

2. By doing so, any modifications and hacks done to the core files will be erased and replaced with the official, updated codes for Brillo.

3. Do not worry about your user's data, they will be left untouched.

4. Template Overrides: Certain templates might utilize template override for JomSocial 1.5.x. It is advisable for you to disable this override because it is no longer compatible with Brillo due to major structure update to accomodate new features.

To disable template override, kindly head to {root}/templates/{mycurrentJoomlatemplate}/html and rename com_community to com_community_old.

5. Plugins & Modules: Please update all official plugins & modules to meet new Brillo structure.

6. It is best for you to consult your third-party JomSocial modules & applications developer on updates for Brillo. Disable them if you encounter any javascript error.

JomSocial 1.2.x to 1.5.x

1. You are no longer required to Uninstall JomSocial 1.5.x before installing the latest version. Simply install the installer package via the regular Joomla! Install/Uninstall procedure. However please note that any core modifications will be overwritten.

2. JomSocial applications can also be installed without having them uninstalled first due to our new ‘upgrade’ method. This is experimental and does not apply to Modules.

3. Please note: If you are upgrading from JomSocial 1.2.x to JomSocial 1.5.x, JomSocial 1.5.x will not recognize any old template customizations and core hacks that were previously done by the user.

This is due to JomSocial 1.5.x’s new template structure - which has been re-designed for the new Featured User/Video/Gallery, Photo Tagging, Easy Share, Group Photos & Videos, and numerous other adjustments.

4. However rest assured that this information will not be deleted after any JomSocial un-installation.

In short, any information that is retrieved from database will not be deleted. :)

However as a standard operation procedure before any big update for any website, always do a backup prior to upgrading JomSocial.

JomSocial 1.0.x or 1.1.x to 1.5.x

1. You will not need to do successive installation of upgrades in order to have the latest JomSocial version.

2. Simply upload the latest installation package using the regular Joomla Installation procedure, and our installer will do a database checkup and apply necessary updates reflecting changes in latest versions.
