Installation Checklist

JomSocial will run on most standard web hosting environments. To install JomSocial, you need

• Joomla! 1.5.15 or above
• PHP 5.2.4 and above
• MySQL 4.1 and above
• MySQL 4.0 ( Untested )
• PHP GD extension
• minimum of 16Mb memory reserved for PHP.
• /components/com_community folder must not be used by other component
• The following folder need to be writeable
  • /tmp
  • /components
  • /plugins
  • /language/
  • /images/
  • /plugins/system
  • /administrator/components
• PHP's max_execution_time should ideally be 60 (seconds) or more.

Zend Library

JomSocial 1.8 implements a new well-tested and stable framework to assist us in providing a whole new set of features and as a catalyst to speed up our production while maintaining stability and flexibility of our APIs. As such, you will now have to install Zend Framework (readmore: http://framework.zend.com) prior to installing JomSocial.

JomSocial installer will install this library automatically during component installation.

Installing the component

Installation of Jom Social is pretty simple, you will only need to install using the main component installer file. Follow the steps below and you will have Jom Social installed in no time.

1. Please login to your Joomla! Administration area.

2. Go to Help > System Info > Directory Permission and ensure that all directories listed there are writable by Joomla.

3. Proceed to Extensions > Install / Uninstall.
At Upload Package File, browse and install com_community_pro_{version}.zip.

4. You will be greeted with:
JomSocial is a social networking component for Joomla! Thank you for choosing JomSocial, please click on the following button to complete your installation. Press ‘Complete Your Installation’.

5. JomSocial will do a system checkup to see whether your PHP & server configurations are compatible with JomSocial.

6. Press Next. JomSocial will then use an advanced installation procedure to avoid any server-side php maximum execution time errors. Once the automatic progress bar reaches the 10th step, you will be greeted with:

7. Press Next, and you are done! Congratulations!

Alternative Install Method

1. Unzip com_community_pro_unzip_first_{version}.zip uzing your favorite software, locate com_community_pro_{version}.zip, and then unzip it into a new folder on your desktop.

2. Rename that new folder to jomsocial (or any name that you prefer).

3. Upload the jomsocial folder to your Joomla /tmp directory using your FTP software.

4. Go to Joomla Install/Uninstall area

5. At Install from Directory, after the /tmp link, add /jomsocial. This means, after the link given in the box (which ends with /tmp), add /jomsocial after it.
Example, from:
/var/www/web1/web/tmp
to : /var/www/web1/web/tmp/jomsocial

6. Then click Install.
