1. set a landing page? thats not the stream?
2. how can i change the settings so i can only see my friends stream

Hi. You can set "Stream: Me and my friends" in backend for all users as default.

Try to add to you CSS file class ".joms-activity-filter__options" and set "display: none" for it. It should hide "Gear" icon.

thank you soo much you have been a great help but i wish to keep picking ur brain if you dont mind. is there a way so when someone adds a vid url, it will come up in the vid stream sidebar??

You can publish in sidebar "JS Videos" module that will display latest videos. In other way you can use "JS Activity Stream" module, but it doesn't display "videos" (I do not know why - the re is no such option).
