Alex Smirnov Rob yep, like @[[5481247:contact:Zurkster]] said, you may want to check if your /tmp folder is writable for your system. Imo, your best bet is to contact your hosting provider and check with them why you can not install any addons for your Joomla. Just my 2c. 8 years ago

a Guest @Alex I wouldn't bother going to the hosting company, many shared hosting solutions do not provide FTP access at a permissions level, however I found using extensions.joomla.org/extension/extplorer FTP browser most helpful for setting folder permissions on ANY Joomla installation without FTP access.
