When we started JomSocial, we built it around a few simple ideas. People want to share and stay connected with their friends and the people around them. When you have control over what you share, you want to share more. When you share more, the world becomes more open and connected.

Ok, it wasn't me who wrote that paragraph. That was some billionaire, somewhere. But, while sharing is a good thing, we understand that there are certain things that you much prefer to keep to yourself or share it, just among your trusted friends. 

Currently, JomSocial supports basic privacy level when it comes to your personal information. You can select to share all your information either to the public, site members, or friends. In the upcoming 2.2 however, we are giving you a complete control over every single detail of your personal data. For each custom field, you can now decide who you want to share it with. You might want to tell the world which country you're from while keeping your birthday to yourself.

Not only that, all social objects, such as photo albums and videos will also give you the same powerful privacy option. You will also have the option to allow or disallow other users to find you through email or name search.

This really is just the beginning, but I hope it demonstrates our commitment to continuously improve privacy aspect of JomSocial

JomSocial 2.0 is still fresh from the oven, but in the spirit of sharing, we want to give a heads up for everyone for the upcoming changes in JomSocial 2.2 language files. In order to support Joomla! 1.6 (hint!), JomSocial language file will have to undergo a massive revamp.

We have also decided to revamp the translation code along the way to clean up and streamline some of the redundant/repetitive language code.  This should make for a more compact, accurate and more maintainable language file. Unfortunately, this means that language file for existing JomSocial 2.0 and below will no longer work with JomSocial 2.2 and later,  and this is where we need your help.

We will be opening a new official translation group. Our aim is that we should be able to ship JomSocial 2.2 with as many official translation as possible.We are hoping to open our main repository or set up some automated system where you guys can contribute the language file easily.

If you guys are interested in joining the official translation group, please put your name down at our translation forum. Supporting multiple languages is without a doubt one of the strong point of JomSocial, and so far we have had over 100 language packages posted by our keen community.

Personally, I can only speak 2.1 languages (the 0.1 being some Japanese during my school days!), but with your help JomSocial can do a lot better!

JomSocial project is entering its 3rd year and it has been such a wild ride for us. But the truth is, I am always humbled by your continuous support for JomSocial project. Without your support, JomSocial project won’t exist. We are grateful to have such a passionate bunch of users who tirelessly giving us support and feedback, just to see JomSocial grow further. I hope the project has helped you build a thriving online community and in a small way, make the world a better place for all of us.

I know, on our own, we’re probably not going to end war or bring world peace or end hunger world-wide, but we really should try harder!

Not having any food for the day because you can’t afford any sucks, really!)  and we would like you to participate. I just came back from the US, where I attended Joomla!  Day West 2010 in San Jose, California. It was awesome! All the familiar names in Joomla world were there. Sam, Andrew Eddie, Lois, Matt, Ryan, Wendy, Merav and many more. I know it has been over a week ago, but it doesn't make it less awesome!

More than anyone, I was so thrilled to meet some of our users. Hearing them telling me their stories on how they use JomSocial to power their social network and how it has transform their sites was such an inspiring experience, making us want to work even harder!. THANK YOU!!!

Yes, you heard it right. This is a sneak preview of JomSocial 2.0.  I know most of you have been waiting for this list and to be really honest with you, the list of changes is too long for me to blog about it. So here's what I am going to do, I will summarize it into some of the major features that will be incorporated with a couple of screen shots to go with it.

• Multiple profile system
  This is one of the major feature that will be included in the next release. Yes, users can now select their profile types which the site admin has already predefined from the back end. As a site administrator, you can also restrict group creations by different profile types.

JomSocial Pro comes with 4 professionally design templates to compliment a wide range of users. For those who seek unique look for their community driven sites, they can opt for third party template solution. Here we randomly selected and listed down 10 professional templates that natively support the open source community software.

To help promote local talents and Joomla industry itself, JomSocial will host a free training session on Joomla template development.

This free Joomla training is targeted to Joomla developers who already have at least basic skill in designing and developing for Joomla. The training is scheduled on 2nd October 2010 at JomSocial's Malaysia office.
