JomSocial Upgrader

We have been working on a new addon which will allow site administrators to easily upgrade without having the pain of making backups and searching for codes they have added / changed. This new addon will compare against the checksum of each files and based on the checksums generated, it will then make a backup for you! Yes, you no longer need to back them up yourself ;) However, this will only work with JomSocial 1.6 and above as the addon will need to compare against the checksum that is generated from each build.

Main page, where you need to upload your JomSocial installer here.

Backup & comparing process...

Once the whole process is completed, you can then view the files that are backed up for you and you can view the differences between the backed up file and the new file.

More to come soon as we move the upgrader process for plugins and modules =) We also have plans to include upgrader for 3rd party plugins which are still underway.

I'm on 1.5.248 & my "Latest version Check" says I'm on the latest - so any ideas when to expect it?

Scott,

It will still revert back to JomSocial's template just that this will make a backup of any modified files in jomsocial.

That's fantastic! Does it leave the template design changes as is too? Or is their a way to incorporate that with the update?

...now if only you would leave the core template files alone when upgrading.

Why dont you use template override?

Mark, this is great and has be longly awaited. If I may expand on JoeJoe2's comment, I'd like to see this recognize the standard JomSocial template structure and only update those files that have not been modified within any template directory.

All template folder structures should remain in place vs. removing them as the current install does. I owe you a PM, so I can elaborate more detailed requirements to help.

Sure, just drop me a message =)

That's really great to hear! Will save me a lot of time when doing upgrades for clients and myself.
Really looking forward to the new functionality.

Yeah, it should save you lots of time figuring out which files you modified and of course, ensures that everything worked fine after the upgrade. Kudos to JomSocial team smilies/tongue.gif

JoeJoe2,

Unless you do not want any new features to the existing JOmSocial, I am afraid there is no other way apart from updating it smilies/sad.gif
