Yes, you heard it right. JomSocial 2.4.2 is fully compatible with Joomla 2.5 without needing any update or compatibility patch.

The JomSocial Team would like to congratulate the Joomla Development Team and the awesome Community behind it for delivering the latest iteration of the world’s most popular open source content management system.  

For your information, Joomla 2.5 is intended to be an LTS (a Long Term Support) version, which will be kept updated through October, 2013. It is a polished gem, a fusion of updates in Joomla 1.6 and Joomla 1.7 that are finally merged into an LTS tree. 

With Joomla 1.5 end of life being slated for April 2012 (which I remind you, is two months away), the release of Joomla 2.5 may bring a mixed reaction from most Joomla users. Some would prefer to stay with old, and trusted Joomla 1.5 for its stability and wealth of supported extensions, while some others would prefer having the latest updates on their site.

There will come a juncture, where a fork appears on the road and poses a grim question: Should I migrate to Joomla 2.5? My answer would be a resounding Yes, but somewhat echoed with a bit of uncertainty. At one point or another, any Joomla 1.5 sites are encouraged to migrate to Joomla 2.5 before its old backbone starts to become susceptible to intrusions and security threats. That gives rise to another question: When?

If you are running Joomla 1.5, and extensions deemed critical to the site’s functionality are already compliant with Joomla 1.6 & 1.7, there is a high probability that they are already compatible with Joomla 2.5 with no or little updates from respective developers. However if the extensions are still not compatible with Joomla 1.6 & 1.7, this would definitely be the best time to urge your developers for an update.  

As for JomSocial, we will officially bade good-bye for Joomla 1.5 in January 2013, a good one year from now to give our users ample time to migrate. :)
