JomSocial 2.6 Development Progress

It has been a while since we last updated this blog with JomSocial development progress. 

Some may recall our previous JomSocial 2.4 blog posts which introduced the groundwork for quite a number of exciting features in upcoming versions of JomSocial. Some may remember our long term mission of improving content discovery to celebrate user-generated content, making them easier to be found and act upon; which will directly liven up your social niche. Some may also remember several highly voted feature requests in Uservoice have been marked as Started/Under Progress.

We recall an overwhelming request from our fellow supporters for notifications enhancements throughout JomSocial platform. And well admittedly we also recall some confusion and disappointment that it has caused when we previously announced JomSocial 2.4 Boulevard will only see improvements with regard to individual selection of preferred email notifications.  

While notification updates in JomSocial 2.4 Boulevard seem only to cover email configuration, we have actually implemented the foundation for notification updates in upcoming JomSocial iterations. 

Internal notifications similar to the one that you see in ehm, one de-facto social networking site on the planet, while being straight-forward and no-brainer, is actually one very performance intensive feature. It doesn’t help either considering that JomSocial is being used by over 150,000 websites and the majority of them have limited resources. Our initial tests should we implement internal notifications in JomSocial 2.4 did not resonant well with such server limitation. Concerned with performance, we decided to ship it with JomSocial 2.6. 

It was an unpopular decision, but we are glad we have crossed the bridge.

I don’t believe you. How about video comments? Of course!

What if someone tagged me in videos? Notified as well! And oh, we now have video tags.

Oh, before I forget, development for all these notifications has been completed, but not yet ready for shipment. How’s so? Well, we need your help. Please help us verify these notifications by visiting our development site and shoot away with as much activity your heart desire!
