Do you want to be a part of the contributing community? Let us know what you think should be included or revamped in the upcoming Advance Search for JomSocial 2.2

When we first added Advance Search into JomSocial, our initial goal was to allow users to have more flexibility and control over their search results.

It allows any user on the site to perform search through the custom fields that were created on the site. Based on the fields created by the admin, the user can then refine their search criteria.

After having a lot of feedback's from the forums, it does seem like adding criteria manually is pretty tedious and some also wants to have the criteria listed out by default.

In the back end, you will now be able to set specific fields to be search-able. Based on these fields, only fields that is marked as search-able will only be displayed in the search form.

On top of that, we are also planning to add in an optional new search view which will display a list of search criteria by default.

This is a new optional search view which only allows user to search certain fields which is based on the new search-able option.

Let us know if you have any thoughts or ideas on how we can further enhance or revamp our existing advance search.

Does anyone know if this feature was developed. I just purchased the newest version of JomSocial because of this feature. If not does anyone know of how to modify the advanced search to have the html based form instead of the weird criteria search which confuses the average client :-) Thank you.

Oh, and since you are looking for feedback... Please ensure that:
1. You can not circumvent the non-searchable fields setting by messing around with the URL.
2. Simple search also respects the non-searchable fields parameter.

If you get this sorted I'll be a happy bunny!

Please add a "type" that is a simple numerical value. So that someone can do a simple search of less-than, equal to, between, etc. (i.e. I want to see all men between 150 an 180 cm tall).

Universal search. Search's photos, albums, videos, events, profiles, groups, group content, all categories.

Proximity search, similar to events search. Which would also mean adding location features to photos, albums, groups, videos.

Also, the ability to search by profile type is a must.

Oh, one last thing. To be extended by searching by profile type.

Since profile types can have different fields attached to them, on selection of a particular profile type from search, only fields available to that profile type are shown/able to be searched from.

Yes, searching by profile type (onlz fields available to that profile type ) is really a must.

Just have a look at jReviews´s search function! It has all you want including a working proximity search.

Additionally take a look at XIUS from Joomlaxi.

Hello,

In my opinion I think that select criterias individually can be tedious but is more powerfull that any other system.

My suggestiion is to allow that Multiple type of accounts can be listed at search criteria because with this can do more powerfull searches.

Many thanks for all!

These days search is not just about building the WHERE Clause in an SQL. It is about building some search intelligence in the algorithm.

The changes highlighted in this blog is great, it is for advanced searchers.

But the real search would have to be simple with one text box, ability to search other modules, components, including Joomla core contents. Be able to interpret what the user wants to search and sort by relevance. Okay I know I have gone too far now.

It would be great if it was possible to allow range search, choosing data trough dropdown fields (like now works birthday search) when the field to search contain more values.

yea i second that .. built in support fo the core joomla search is needed as its good to use one simple search for the entire site .. then we can use that module and ajax it to search for everything ..

Hmz,
Built-in support for the core Joomla! search would be something great as well.

Search-able fields are great but also to be able to make custom search in backend och post them in menu items.

Also looking for do geolocation search. ie search members in a certain radius.
